Continuing the theme of the previous post, these are two more of  Nixia's looks from her recent purchasing trip.  It is interesting to see Nixia's design style reflected in her personal wardrobe: clothing and accessory choices that are both practical and chic.  Although travel limited her quantity of clothing, Nixia sacrificed nothing of style.  The designer relied on pairing basics with some of her favorite, classic accessories.

Below are additional images of Nixia Varela LaMar from her  European buying trip.  Although essentially a business trip, it is interesting to see that--even working-- the designer makes clothing and accessory choices that are both practical and chic.  As in her design work, Nixia compromises neither comfort nor style.  While traveling with a limited wardrobe, Nixia relied on matching basics and dressing them up with simple, elegant accessories in bags, belts and jewelery.

Nixia is back in Panama after an exciting, productive shopping tour.  As mentioned in a previous post, Nixia selected enough fabrics for several upcoming collections.  Nixia has already discovered the inspiration that will help her establish the theme of one significant collection and begun preliminary sketches.  Nixia will begin unveiling new creations during the last quarter of 2011 and throughout 2012.

With an entire shopping week remaining, it is likely the European fabrics will figure heavily in several upcoming Varela LaMar collections.

Varela LaMar finale of Fashion Week Panama 2011

One challenge facing Nixia in preparing for Fashion Week Panama 2011 was to find the right music to pair with the Varela LaMar  collection.  The creations ranged from classic, floor length gowns in silk to designs with a hint of the Bohemian, combining different prints and fabrics.  

Nixia had to find a sound that somehow reflected the range of the collection: an artist whose sound brought both experimental and formal elements to her music.  Finally, the tempo needed to be consistent with the upbeat ambiance of a runway presentation.

Nixia was fortunate to discover New York vocalist DEZ MAARTEN, also a classically trained pianist.  The DEZ MAARTEN tracks Nixia selected have a  decidedly dance/club sound, but the artist's broader musical experience is at once apparent. A complete artist, DEZ MAARTEN has worked in every artistic arena from music, to cinema, painting and dance.
